Dyspepsia Definition: Dyspepsia is the upper abdominal problem including pain, feeling of fullness and some other problems like nausea. Dyspepsia is a functional disease which means no physical and visual problem can be seen through x-ray or other tests. Dyspepsia is a painful and difficult digestion which is followed by problems like nausea, vomiting, heartburn and stomach discomfort.
Dyspepsia Symptoms: Pain, a feeling of abdominal fullness while no food is eaten, nausea. Eating intensifies the symptoms. These symptoms can have different causes like infections, ulcers and/or liver and gallbladder problems. However, in most cases no special problem can be found and that is why Dyspepsia is called a functional disease which can be related to some problems in normal movements of the gastrointestinal tract.
Dyspepsia Treatment and Cure: The treatment of dyspepsia should be done through the finding the causative factors and problems. For example if there is a ulcer in the stomach, it can be the reason and the problem will be resolved when the ulcer is cured. Sometimes just a change in dietary habits can resolve the dyspepsia problem. However there is excessive pain that radiates to back, weight loss and difficulty in swallowing, it has to be investigated more.
Functional Dyspepsia: It is when no special cause like ulcer or infection can be found. Functional dyspepsia can be because of the problems in muscles and nerves functions.
Nonulcer Dyspepsia: It is another shape of the functional dyspepsia. Or it is a kind of dyspepsia which is cause by something other than an ulcer. Like the problem in liver of gallbladder functionality.
Ulcer Dyspepsia: It is a kind of dyspepsia caused by an ulcer. Naturally, if the ulcer becomes cured properly, the dyspepsia symptoms will be disappeared too.
Chronic Dyspepsia: It happens when there is a serious problem like an ulcer or a serious malfunction in liver or gallbladder.
Acid Dyspepsia: Or acidic dyspepsia happens when there are too much acid in the stomach. It can be followed by heartburn. Controlling the stomach acid or changing the diet can completely resolve the problem.
Nervous Dyspepsia: It is a kind of functional dyspepsia which is not related to any ulcer or malfunction of the liver and gallbladder. It can be known as reflux dyspepsia too (gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)). It happens when the patient becomes nervous. It is also called nonulcerative dyspepsia. The treatment is easy because patient knows that there is not physical or health problem. On the other hand it can be hard because patient has to become able to control his behavior and nervous situation.
Flatulent Dyspepsia Syndrome: It is a kind of dyspepsia with a swelled stomach. It can have any of the above reasons. It can be because of an ulcer or infection (gastric dyspepsia) or it can be a functional dyspepsia.
Ulcerative Dyspepsia: It is when there are dyspepsia symptoms and a the same time at least one ulcer is found on the stomach or gastrointestinal tract.
Dyspepsia and pregnancy: Dyspepsia is one of the normal problems of pregnancy. The simplest reason can be the pressure of the uterus on gastrointestinal tract. Naturally all the symptoms will be disappeared after the delivery.
